Commonly Asked Questions About Waxing

Do you treat all genders?

Of course! Every Body is an inclusive, safe, and welcoming place for everyone – if you grow hair, I wax them! This is why I offer a strict gender-neutral Waxing Menu. Have no worries, as I can reassure you that I am very experienced in waxing both female and male genitalia.

Why wax?

Waxing is the best way to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the roots, not just from the skin’s surface. When waxed consistently, hair grows back slower, finer and sparser, or not at all. On the other hand, as shaving cuts your hair, the quantity and thickness remain the same.

Does waxing hurt?

I suppose this is by far the most common question I get about Waxing and honestly, it is nearly impossible to answer! Generally speaking, Waxing can be a bit uncomfortable however, the process is usually minorly painful. My techniques and high-quality training will ensure it is as painless and as quick as can be. With repeat visits (including your very next visit) discomfort from Waxing is greatly diminished as hair grows back finer and sparser!

Can I use a numbing cream before I wax?

I would rather you didn’t. Numbing creams can interfere with the application of the wax or, in certain situations, cause allergic reactions. I know, ripping hair out of follicles isn’t going to be an utterly comfortable experience, especially in your first appointment but, as I am very experienced the process is only minorly painful.

Pro-tip: waxing more frequently will help with sensitivity as hair grows back finer and sparser! If you’re still worried about managing sensitivity, I recommend taking an Ibuprofen or Aspirin roughly 30 minutes before your appointment to help maximize your comfort. If you want a numbing cream at all costs, then ask your pharmacist for any numbing cream that includes lidocaine such as Emla.

How long does my hair have to be?

Your hair should be around 0.3 to 1 cm of growth for you to be happy with your results. A good rule of thumb to remember is if you can easily pinch the hair, you’re ready! Wax can’t pick up your hair if they are extremely short and on the other hand, when hair are too long, they could break during a waxing session. Also, more pain is associated with longer growth.

If you are a shaver, I suggest you allow three weeks of hair growth from the last time you used removal creams or shaved. I understand it might feel like forever, but trust me and you won’t regret it!

Shall I trim right before my waxing appointment?

I prefer you wouldn’t. You run the risk of over-trimming; wax won’t be able to catch that very short hair, which will affect your results.

How often do I need to come in?

This varies from client to client. Generally, it’s a 3-5 week wax routine however some of my clients can wait for 6-8 weeks. If you are a shaver/newbie, please allow three weeks of hair growth from the last time you used removal creams and shaved.

Please note: The moment you shave or use hair removal creams, you become a virgin waxer again and this may result in fuzz and stubble left after the waxing. Your waxing cycle restarts and you must wait until your third wax for the perfect waxing experience. So, always remember, patience is key!

Will my hair grow back thicker, darker, stronger?

No way! Quite the opposite. Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root and when the hair starts to grow back it’s a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble. The more you wax, the less hair grows back!

Will my skin experience a reaction?

It depends. If you tend to get breakouts, ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reactions from waxing, although dramatically decreased (especially with repeated visits).

To minimize skin reactions, follow the instructions in the pre-waxing guide as well as the post-waxing guide and come in like clockwork, every 4 weeks on the dot. These will help set you up for waxing success!

Is there an age limit or requirement for getting waxed?

There is not a waxing age limit or waxing age requirement, but if you’re under the age of 18, bring a parent or legal guardian on your first visit as I need their written consent.

Please note that I will not perform Brazilian waxing services on anyone under the age of 15 –  even with parental consent, but anything else, including legs and some bikini waxing (aka Tidy Bikini), to make sure that no hair is poking out from the elastic of a swimsuit, is more than ok.

How young is too young regarding waxing?

It really depends on the child. If your child is persistent with a request for its body hair to be removed, then I suggest you bring them off waxing, so they don’t sneak off with a razor and potentially injure themselves. I usually perform waxing on children every three or four months just to make them feel good and fit in.

Note that written parental consent is required for all underage guests.

Can I be in the treatment room while my underage child is having its waxing service?

Yes, a parent or a legal guardian can be in the treatment room with an underage child, if that is a decision made together with the child for its optimum comfort.

Is waxing safe for those with sensitive skin?

If done properly, waxing can be a great benefit to people with sensitive skin. It is much more gentle on the skin than many other methods of hair removal, like shaving, hair cream removals and at home depilatories.

I am on medication/I have a health issue, will this affect my wax?

Maybe, as some drugs or health issues can weaken your skin. This is why, before your initial service, I am asking you to complete a detailed Consultation Form and I always evaluate your skin site before each service. Please refer to the Waxing Contraindications for further reading.

Can I get a wax while I’m menstruating?

Yes, all you need is a clean tampon and you’re good to go. Please note that you may experience extra sensitivity to waxing up to a week before the beginning of your period.

I’m pregnant! Can I get waxed?

Of course, you can, right up to your due date. Just keep in mind that the hormones of pregnancy might make you more sensitive to pain. Waxing frequently will help to ease much of that discomfort. Remember though, every pregnancy is different and if you have concerns, you should consult your doctor before waxing.

I have a piercing, can I still get waxed?

Yes, sure. If you aren’t able to remove it, I can work around your piercing.

I have hemorrhoids, can I still get a Brazilian, aν In Between, or a Bare Booty wax?

Yes, of course, don’t worry one bit! Just be sure to communicate that with me, so that way we’re both on the same page. I have years of experience and will suggest the best options for you.

I am having a big event coming up, when should I come for my waxing?

If you’ve never been waxed before and have a big event or a holiday coming up, I recommend you plan ahead and try to get in at least three waxes and reschedule your last appointment three days before the event/holiday.

If you are a waxer, schedule your waxing appointment 2 to 3 days before the event/holiday.

What kind of wax do you use?

Depending on the area treated, I use different types of 3rd generation Film and Roll On Waxes, that are not only hypoallergic and vegan but also have a low melting point and minimal skin pulling. They are applied at a lukewarm temperature to soothe the most delicate parts of the skin, sticking only to the hair. This yields the best results for effective hair removal and maximum safety and comfort. Combine that with my skills and techniques, and you get a better waxing experience overall. Quicker. More precise. And, more importantly, less painful. With longer, smoother results.

For those interested, I also keep handy Sugar Paste Cartridges, that are also hypoallergic and vegan.

Is waxing safe?

Absolutely! I pride myself on my cleaning standards. My wax products and procedures are entirely sanitary. I take universal precautions. I use latex-free disposable gloves, disposable sticks, and disposable medical paper coverings on the bed, and I clean and prep the skin before hair removal. After using any tools/equipment, I clean, disinfect, and sanitize to ensure no chance of cross-contamination. I only work with single-use wax cartridges when it comes to Soft wax and I pre-dispense the required amount of Film wax for each customer into single-use pots. Any unused product is always discarded right after each treatment.

How Do I Prevent Ingrown Hairs?

Preventing ingrown hair can be as easy as exfoliating the waxed areas 3 times per week. I’ve put together a practical guide for you on how to successfully banish those annoying ingrown hair for good.

I want to wax, but I am embarrassed because I am not at my best.

I’m not here to judge your body image, or to have second thoughts about it. I am here to help you boost your confidence. Every Body is a no-judgment zone, so come as you are! Also, please consider giving yourself a break, embrace your body, and practice some self-love.

Do I have to be completely undressed for a Brazilian?

For a Brazilian wax, you will have to undress from the waist down – including your underwear. I understand it might sound a bit awkward, especially if you’ve never met me before, but, trust me, my only concern is helping you feel comfortable and do a good job. I wax people’s genitals all day long. I’ve seen it all, and I don’t judge.

What if I get aroused during my Brazilian?

Sometimes it happens and usually, it passes pretty quickly. As long as you are not behaving inappropriately I will carry out the treatment as normal. As I expect decent behavior from my guests during their treatment, any inappropriate comments or actions will result in the treatment ending immediately. This also means no rebooking for any future treatments. And that goes for all people, not just those with male genitalia.

What if I see you, my esthetician and waxer, out in public?

Confidentiality is highly prized for me, so don’t run and hide! I won’t announce to the public that you get waxed or whatsoever, so do not fret. Do what you feel comfortable with. I’ve got your best in mind and would be okay if you keep it simple and just say hello or introduce me as “an old friend” and carry on a full-length conversation if you’d like.
