Waxing Contraindications

Waxing is a safe hair removal method that leaves your skin super smooth if done correctly. To ensure a safe and successful waxing experience, keep in mind and inform me of the following:

Medications

1. If you are currently using Isotretinoin (like Roaccutan), I am afraid you cannot receive a waxing service. You must be off this medication for a minimum of 6 months prior to waxing.

2. If you are currently using any of the following prescription medications, you will have to discontinue the usage for a minimum of 3 months before waxing:

  • Adapalene
  • Tazarotene
  • Tretinoin
  • Clindamycin
  • Azelaic Acid
  • Doxycycline
  • Erythromycin
  • Μetronidazole
  • Prednisone
  • Tetracycline

3. If you are currently using any of the following, please inform me, as these products can make the skin more sensitive. Thin, sensitive skin is more vulnerable to lifting and sensitivity during waxing.

  • Other Acne medications not listed above
  • Other oral antibiotics not listed above

The same is true if you are using any of the following topically in the area to be waxed:

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (like Glycolic, Lactic)
  • Topical Antibiotics
  • Retinol
  • Salicylic Acid
  • Any acid-based products
  • Other Exfoliants
  • Bleaching agents for hair
  • Bleaching agents for skin pigmentation
  • Previous chemical depilatories (like Veet)
  • Benzoyl Peroxide (like Brevoxyl)
