Post-Waxing Tips That Will Change Your Waxing Experience

Perhaps you already know that waxing leaves your skin soft, smooth and hair-free! Booking your waxing appointment with a licensed esthetician is your first step to success. Being prepared the right way is your second one.

Following good aftercare is your third step to maintaining a beautiful, smooth result! So, let me give you a helping hand and guide you through some simple post-wax tips that will help make your wax more comfortable and last longer! And that's a win-win situation!

First 24 hours after your waxing

Dress Wisely

Immediately after your waxing session, make sure you wear clean, loose clothing to avoid sweat and friction, which might increase the risk of irritation or infection. Likewise, choosing natural fibres like cotton will be much gentler on the skin than synthetics like spandex or polyester, which do not allow the skin to breathe properly.

Do Not Touch

Resist the temptation to touch or scratch the freshly waxed areas if you want to avoid bumps or other adverse reactions.

Stay Cool

Avoid prolonged exposure to heat – including saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, and hot baths or showers. Nevertheless, it is safe to shower with cool to lukewarm water only. Prefer a body wash that is gentle, with no harsh chemicals and additives.

Stay Clean

Avoid applying any heavy creams, gels, oils, tanning products, deodorants or perfumes to your freshly waxed area other than those recommended by your esthetician. You can return to your moisturizing routine from the second day after your waxing appointment.

Don't Get Bussy

Avoid intense exercise and sex for 24 hours after your wax. If you had an intimate waxing, it would be better to avoid sex for 48 hours after your appointment. As sweat and the bacteria that thrive in the sweaty skin and friction can cause damage to your freshly waxed skin, why take the chance?

First 48 hours after your waxing

Say no to Swimming

Wait at least 48 hours to swim in the beach or the pool after waxing, as salt water, chlorine, and bacteria can cause bumps and infection on freshly waxed skin.

Do Not Expose Yourself to the Sun

Wait at least 48 hours before sun exposure and tanning beds if you do not want to run the risk of burns and scarring. Freshly waxed skin has its outer protective layer stripped, so sun exposure could be more damaging than usual.

In Between Your Waxing Appointments

Exfoliate and Moisturize at the Right Time.

Taking the time to exfoliate and moisturize regularly is the key to keeping your skin smooth, soft and free of irritation. But remember, the perfect time to exfoliate is two to three days after your waxing.

Ditch The Razor

Never shave in between waxing appointments. Razors will disrupt your growth pattern and cause the hair to grow back coarser. This increases your risk of irritation and ingrown hairs.

Keep it Regular

Once you start waxing, maintain your appointments. To keep them aligned with your hair's natural growth cycle, space them four to six weeks apart.

Hands Off

If you notice ingrown hairs, don't try to dig them out! If you pick at your ingrown hairs with your nails, you risk scarring and infection. Exfoliate the waxed area gently, focusing on the ingrown hairs. Afterwards, you can apply an antiseptic cream. If exfoliation does not remove the ingrown, try a special ingrown hair lotion.

Book your next wax appointment, and make sure to follow those tips in the meantime!
