Commonly Asked Questions About Waxing

Why wax?
Does waxing hurt?

Waxing can be a bit uncomfortable however, the process is usually minorly painful. My techniques and high-quality training will ensure it is as painless and as quick as can be.

With repeat visits (including your very next visit) discomfort from waxing is greatly diminished as hair grows back finer and sparser!

Can I use a numbing cream before I wax?

I would rather you didn’t. Numbing creams can interfere with the application of the wax or, in certain situations, cause allergic reactions.

I know, ripping hair out of follicles isn’t going to be an utterly comfortable experience, especially in your first appointment but, as I am a very experienced the process is only minorly painful.

How long does my hair have to be?

Your hair should be around 1 to 1.5 cm of growth for you to be happy with your results. A good rule of thumb to remember is if you can easily pinch the hair, you’re ready! Wax can't pick up your hairs if they are extremely short and on the other hand, when hairs are too long, they could break during a waxing session. Also, more pain is associated with longer growth.

If you are a shaver, I suggest you allow three weeks of hair growth from the last time you used removal creams or shaved. I understand it might feel like forever, but trust me and you won’t regret it!

How often do I need to come in?

This varies from client to client. Generally, it’s a 4-5 week wax routine however some of my clients can wait for 6-8 weeks.

If you are a shaver/newbie, please allow three weeks of hair growth from the last time you used removal creams and shaved.

Please note: The moment you shave or use hair removal creams, you become a virgin waxer again and this may result in fuzz and stubbles left after the waxing. Your waxing cycle restarts and you must wait until your third wax for the perfect waxing experience. So, always remember, patience is key!

I am having a big event coming up, when should I come for my waxing?

If you’ve never been waxed before and have a big event or a holiday coming up, I would recommend you plan ahead and try to get in at least three waxes before you leave and reschedule your last appointment three days before the event/holiday.

How should I prepare for my wax?
  • Give a good exfoliation on your skin with a scrub, brush, mitt, or loofah to remove dead skin cells that surround the hair follicles, three days before your appointment. Exfoliating helps loosen existing ingrown hairs and improves your waxing results - but don't exfoliate 24 hours to 48 hours before waxing to avoid irritation.
  • Keep your skin moisturized, but don't coat your body with lotions, creams or any of the sort the day of your wax.
  • Let your hair grow! For best results, the hair length should be 1 to 1.5 cm.
  • Make sure you are not on any medications or health issues that weaken the skin and may cause it to tear.
  • On your waxing day avoid consuming too much caffeine and alcohol, as they tend to make skin more sensitive.
  • Wear comfortable cotton made clothing as you’ll want to let freshly waxed skin breathe.
What after-care do I need to follow?

All you have to do is to keep the waxed area clean and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 hours. This means:

  • No hot baths or showers (please use warm water only)
  • No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments
  • No tanning (sunbathing, sunbeds or fake tans)
  • No sex, sport, gym, work or other forms of exercise
  • Don’t exfoliate 24 to 48 hours after your waxing to avoid irritation. (Though I encourage you to exfoliate a few times weekly in between wax appointments to keep your skin soft and to prevent ingrown hair).
  • Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands
  • Avoid swimming
  • No tight clothing (loose clothing lets the skin breathe)
  • Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended.

Please note: Some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, that subside within a few hours. If this is your first wax, or if you have very coarse hair, these reactions might take 24 to 48 hours to subside.

Can I shave between waxes (or use hair removal creams)?

Please remember that the moment you shave or use hair removal creams, your waxing cycle restarts and this may result in fuzz and stubbles left after the waxing.

To get a perfect waxing experience, you must wait until your third wax again.

Shall I trim right before my waxing appointment?

I prefer you wouldn't. You may run the risk of over-trimming; wax won't be able to catch that very short hair, which will affect the results of your wax.

Do you tweeze at all? Can I?

Except for brow waxing service, tweezing is a real no-no at Every Body. I’d appreciate it if you did not tweeze at all on your own as I want all of your hair to grow in at the same time so that I can remove them successfully.

After three waxing treatments, your hairs will usually be all on the same growth cycle, so you won't feel the need to tweeze. Please, remember that tweezing will disrupt your hair growth and thus will forever be tweezing as your hair will grow randomly.

Will my skin experience a reaction?

Yes, possibly. The upper lip, back and chest are all areas that are prone to breakouts. If you tend to get ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reactions from waxing, although dramatically decreased.

To minimize skin reactions, follow the instructions in the pre-waxing guide (LINK) as well as the post-waxing guide and come in like clockwork, every 4 weeks on the dot. These will help set you up for waxing success!

I can already feel stubble. Does this mean my hair is already growing back?

If you’re experiencing stubbles or hair fuzz soon after your appointment, either you are a newbie in waxing, or you are shaving/trimming between your waxing appointments and your hair cycle has been disrupted. It takes three waxings for a  perfect experience.

How Do I Prevent Ingrown Hairs?

Avoiding ingrown hairs is easy if you make sure to exfoliate 2-3 times per week. I can also suggest you a variety of products including scrubs, lotion and oils that can help minimize ingrown hairs.

Will I be completely smooth on my first wax or not?

On your first wax? Honestly, no! It’s like working out at the gym. You don’t automatically lose 5 kg on your first visit, don't you? It’s the same thing with waxing. You will not get the best results until your third wax. This is because hairs in any particular area grow in three different stages. After your third waxing, your hair will be all on the same growth cycle and that means no hair left behind, ultimate smoothness and slow hair regrowth!

Will my hair grow back thicker, darker, stronger?

No way! Quite the opposite. Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root and when the hair starts to grow back it’s a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble. The more you wax, the less hair grows back!

I am on medication, will this affect my wax?

Maybe, as some drugs or some health issues may weaken your skin. For example, if you've been using Roaccutan, Retin-A or any antibiotics causing increased skin sensitivity, or if you experience sunburn I won't be able to wax you. This is why, before your initial service, I am asking you to complete a detailed Consultation Form and I always evaluate your skin site before each service. Please refer to the Waxing Condraindications for further reading.

Is waxing safe for those with sensitive skin?

If done properly, waxing can be a great benefit to people with sensitive skin. It is much more gentle on the skin than many other methods of hair removal, like shaving, hair cream removals and at home depilatories. If you have sensitive skin it is very important to follow the instructions in the pre-waxing guide (LINK) as well as the post-waxing guide (LINK).

Can I get a wax while I’m menstruating?

Yes, all you need is a clean tampon and you’re good to go. Please note that you may experience extra sensitivity to waxing up to a week prior to the beginning of your period.

I have a piercing, can I still get waxed?

Yes. If you aren’t able to remove it, I can work around your piercing.

I have haemorrhoids, can I still get a Brazilian wax?

Yes, of course, don’t worry one bit! Just be sure to communicate that with me, so that way we’re both on the same page. I have years of experience and will suggest the best options for you.

Can I get a wax if I have a UTI or an STI?

I am sorry but it is not advisable to be waxed in this situation due to infection control. Any extra activity in the area could also further aggravate your condition, so I would advise waiting until you are back to full health before booking your appointment.

I’m pregnant! Can I get waxed?

Of course, you can! Women can and have been waxed right up to their due date. Just keep in mind that the hormones of pregnancy make you more sensitive to pain. Waxing frequently will help to ease much of that discomfort. Remember though, every pregnancy is different and if you have concerns, you should consult your doctor before waxing.

Do you treat men?

Of course! Every Body is an inclusive, safe and welcoming place for everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, this is why I offer a strict gender-neutral Waxing Menu. Have no worries, as I can reassure you that I am very experienced in waxing both female and male genitalia.

Do you get walk-in Appointments?

I am sorry but no. Booking your wax ahead of time is the best way to ensure you’ll get the service you want when you need it.

Can I bring my partner/friend/children/dog with me?

Due to the Covid-19 Regulations, I will ask you to come to your appointment alone, as I have limited the number of guests in the studio to support physical distancing.

However, clients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian for their first waxing appointment only. Also, clients under the age of 15 can choose if they want their parent/guardian to accompany them in the treatment room.

Can I be in the treatment room while my underage child is having its waxing service?

A parent or a guardian can be in the treatment room with an underage child, if that is a decision made together with the child for its optimum comfort.

Is there an age limit for getting waxed?

There is not a waxing age limit or waxing age requirement, but if you’re under the age of 18, bring a parent or guardian on your first visit as I need their consent.

Please note that I will not perform Brazilian waxing services on anyone under the age of 15 - but anything else, including legs and some bikini line waxing, to make sure that no hair is poking out from the elastic of a swimsuit, is more than ok.

How young is too young regarding waxing?
It really depends on the child. If your child is persistent with request for it's body hair to be removed, then I suggest you bring them off waxing, so they don't sneak off with a razor and potentially injure themselves. I usually perform waxing at children every three or four months just to make them feel good and to fit in.

If at any time, the child changes its mind in the waxing room, which is totally acceptable, I will stop the procedure. Also, if for any reason it seems that the child is being pressed into a waxing procedure I am sorry, but I won’t go ahead with it.

Is waxing unsanitary?

No way, no how! I pride myself on my hygienic standards. My wax products and procedures are entirely sanitary. I take universal precautions. I use latex-free disposable gloves, disposable sticks, disposable medical paper coverings on the bed, and I clean and prep the skin before hair removal. After using any tools/equipment, I clean, disinfect and sanitize to ensure no chance of cross-contamination.

What about the wax? Do you recycle it?

Never, as this process is un-hygienic and a possible public health hazard. I only work with single-use wax cartridges when it comes to strip wax and I pre-dispense the required amount of no-strip wax for each customer into single-use pots. Any unused product is always discarded.

What kind of wax do you use?

The waxes I work with are hypoallergic and vegan and I import them from the UK. Even though they are designed for use on sensitive skin, they are capable of removing even the most stubborn and coarse hair. I have found using a combination of waxes yields the best results for effective hair removal and maximum client comfort.

Do I have to be completely undressed for a Brazilian?

Yes. But you will only need to undress from the waist down (including your underwear). I know it may be a little unkward for you if you've never met me before, but trust me, I do this all day long. It’s just a body part to me. Every Body is a no-judgement zone, so come as you are!

I want to wax, but I am embarrassed because I am not at my best.

Well, I think it's time to embrace your body. Give yourself a break and practice some self-love. You owe it to yourself! Also, please remember that I’m not here to judge your body image, nor to have second thoughts about it. I am here to help you boost your confidence.

During the waxing am I supposed to talk or just be quiet?

Be your normal self! Keep in mind that I am there for you – whether it’s your first wax or your tenth, whether you’re having a good day or bad.

What if I get aroused?

Sometimes it happens and usually it passes pretty quickly. As long as you are not behaving inappropriately I will carry out the treatment as normal. I expect professional behaviour from my clients during their treatment, therefore any inappropriate comments or actions will result in the treatment ending immediately and you being asked to leave. This also means you will not be rebooked for any future treatments. And that goes for all people, not just for clients with male genitalia.

What if I see you, my esthetician and waxer, out in public?

Confidentiality is highly prized for me, so don't run and hide! I won’t announce to the public that you get waxed or whatsoever, so do not fret. Do what you feel comfortable with. I’ve got your best in mind and would be okay if you keep it simple and just say hello or introduce me as “an old friend" and carry on a full-length conversation if you’d like.
